George Freeman quits as science minister ‘with heavy heart’

Departing minister “particularly proud” to have overseen rejoining of EU’s Horizon Europe funding programme

George Freeman has resigned as science minister amid prime minister Rishi Sunak’s cabinet reshuffle.

Freeman said it had been a difficult decision to leave the science and technology role, but “with a heavy heart…the time has come for me [to stand down] to focus on my health, family wellbeing and life beyond the front bench”.
