UK applications to EU Horizon programme decline sharply

                         

Proportion of UK applications at 6.5 per cent, down from 10 per cent before 2020

The proportion of applications from the UK to the EU’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme has dropped sharply compared with the previous programme, the latest figures show.

Despite the UK being frozen out of Horizon Europe due to the long-running dispute with the EU over trade in Northern Ireland, organisations in the UK have still been able to apply to the programme in the expectation that the UK will eventually join. The UK has been providing backup funding for proposals that were successfully evaluated.
