A quarter of study visas ‘go to dependants’, says ONS

Migration data show large rise in number of dependants coming to the UK

Almost a quarter of all sponsored study visas granted went to dependants of students in the year to March 2023, official statistics have shown.

According to migration data published by the Office for National Statistics on 25 May, some 149,400 student visas were granted to dependants in 2022-23, or 24 per cent of the total. This is up from just 72,062 the previous year, which represented 15 per cent of all student visas.
