‘Secrecy’ surrounds NIHR’s £350m clinical trial spending

There is a lack of transparency for money spent by NIHR, says review author

There is a lack of transparency on the £350 million spent through the National Institute of Health and Care Research on clinical trials, a lead author of a review into the topic has said.

Former innovation minister James O’Shaughnessy told peers on 13 June that one of the things he was “surprised” by when conducting his review is that there does not seem to be “any accountability” for the money the UK is spending through the NIHR’s Clinical Research Network.
