Vallance: UK should join Horizon Europe ‘yesterday’

Former chief scientist says EU programme is “of geopolitical importance” and UK alternative “isn’t sensible”

The former chief scientific adviser to the British government has said the UK should join the EU’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme “yesterday”.

Patrick Vallance, speaking at an event held by the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change on 18 July, also said that the government’s alternative plan—if a deal cannot be reached on joining Horizon Europe—“isn’t sensible”.
