Wantage MP replaces Claire Coutinho, who gets new brief at energy and net zero department

Former education committee member David Johnston has been appointed children’s minister at the Department for Education, a role that has oversight of free speech on university campuses.

Johnston, who is MP for Wantage and Didcot in Oxfordshire, was appointed as the previous incumbent, Claire Coutinho, was promoted to energy and net zero secretary to replace Grant Shapps, who was made secretary of state for defence, replacing Ben Wallace.
