Universities need help with spinouts, says Oxford leader

Irene Tracey urges next government to back commercialisation through access to capital, planning and skills

Universities need “help at the other end of the pipeline” from the next government to make spinout companies successful and drive economic growth, according to University of Oxford vice-chancellor Irene Tracey.

Tracey (pictured) co-authored a government-commissioned review of university spinouts published in November 2023. Ministers accepted the recommendations of the review, which included a call for additional funds to increase movement of people between academia and industry.
