‘Huge concern’ over reported fall in UK R&D spending

NCUB’s alarm comes as its analysis finds public spending provides twice the leverage previously thought

The National Centre for Universities and Business has expressed “huge concern” over new data showing a “worrying decline” in R&D investment.

According to the data released by the Office for National Statistics today, total spending on R&D across the UK dropped from 2.97 per cent of GDP in 2020 to 2.77 per cent in 2022, in current prices.
