Northern Ireland wants more from Europe

The minister for employment and learning in Northern Ireland has said he is keen to strengthen the country's links within Europe.

Speaking at a meeting with his counterparts from Ireland, Greece and Lithuania, Stephen Farry said: “Northern Ireland has benefited greatly from its relationship with Europe, not only as a recipient of significant financial support but also as an opportunity to grow as individuals and a society.” Lithuania and Greece respectively are the next two member states to host the EU presidency.

Farry thanked Ruairi Quinn, Ireland’s minister for education and skills, for hosting the meeting in Leuven, Belgium, where delegates discussed higher and further education. Farry said it brought the “opportunity to discuss building closer ties and strengthening our links within Europe”.
