BIS minister to meet Science Museum Group

Representatives of the UK's Science Museum Group have been promised a meeting with a government minister to discuss how its member institutions are affected by budget cuts.

Jo Swinson, a junior minister at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, told parliament on 18 November that, although the Department for Culture, Media and Sport is the sponsor department for museums, she would "happily have that meeting”.

The offer came in response to parliamentary questions from Labour’s Hugh Bayley, MP for York Central. “The Science Museum Group, which includes the National Railway Museum in York, has had its budget cut by a quarter over the last two spending reviews,” said Bayley. “It does immensely important work in encouraging young people to take an interest in science, leading to careers in science.”
