Use of GM animals in experiments in Wales revealed

A total of 24,220 genetically modified animals were used in experiments in Wales during 2012, UK Home Office minister James Brokenshire has said in a parliamentary statement.

The data on animal experiments carried out in Wales during 2012 were released in response to a request by Jonathan Evans, Conservative MP for Cardiff North.

Of the total number of GM animals used, 9,803 had a harmful genetic defect, Brokenshire said.
