Bill introduced to label drugs tested on animals

A bill requiring information on the animal research used to develop a medicine to be printed on that medicine's labels has been introduced in the House of Lords.

Labour peer Robert Winston, who introduced the private members’ bill on 13 May, said it was designed to “make it clear that it is virtually impossible to receive any licensed pharmaceutical…without stringent tests using animals”.

Winston also intends to highlight how rigorous the animal research regulations are in the UK and to help pharmaceutical companies to “put their head above the parapet”.
