The UK’s science base is in a “decent place” at the moment, but cuts in this month’s spending review could damage that, Liberal Democrat MP Julian Huppert has warned.
Speaking at a debate in the House of Commons on 4 June, Huppert said that “not cutting capital or revenue budgets is the very least that can be done” in the spending review on 26 June.
He urged the government to provide a long-term strategy for science and to move away from three-year cycles. He asked it to remember to support innovation, saying that budget cuts would be a “huge and clear signal to businesses that they should not invest in Britain”.
