Roger Godsiff, Labour MP for Birmingham Hall Green, prompted a debate in parliament by saying that GPs in his constituency do not have time to have a proper conversation with patients about data sharing.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Godsiff said that while using data collected by the NHS sounded like a “wonderful idea” almost no one in the country aside from NHS England, the Department of Health and companies with commercial interest supported it.
He also said that GPs in his constituency had told him they did not have time to properly explain the postponed proposals to make data available for medical research and that the idea was “undermining public confidence in the NHS".
