The government has responded to a report from the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee into responsible use of data, saying that it is working to ensure the UK has a strong digital and data skills pipeline.
It said that the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council was working with universities to invest in the development of high-level skills in data science and analytics. EPSRC investments highlighted included the £42 million allocated for the Alan Turing Institute, which the response says will form “an important part of the UK’s big data capability”.
The government also said that it is working with a range of organisations to promote the importance of digital skills, for example through its funding of the Tech Partnership scheme which brings companies together to seek solutions for their training needs.
