MPs to investigate scrapping of CCS scheme

The House of Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee is to hold a one-off evidence session into the implications of the UK government’s decision to cancel a £1-billion carbon capture and storage competition.

At the evidence session, which will take place on 20 January, MPs will hear from a number of industry representatives as well as Jon Gibbins, the director of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council supported UK Carbon Capture and Storage Research Centre.

The decision to cancel the scheme, shortly before the end of the four-year competition to award the funding, was revealed quietly through a regulatory note sent to the London Stock Exchange after the chancellor George Osborne’s autumn statement on 25 November.
