Half a dozen Conservative MPs have announced that they will vote for the UK to leave the European Union as Cameron promises ministers a free vote.

The six MPs issued statements to The Times saying that they are sceptical about the outcome of prime minister David Cameron’s renegotiation with the EU to curb immigration and restore power to the UK.

They are: James Cleverly, MP for Braintree; Craig Mackinlay, MP for South Thanet; Scott Mann, MP for North Cornwall; Royston Smith, MP for Southampton Itchen; Paul Scully, MP for Sutton and Cheam; and Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick upon Tweed.
