MPs launch follow up inquiry into ocean acidification

The House of Commons Science and Technology Committee has set up a further investigation into the impact of pollution on the pH of the marine environment.

The committee said that it was launching the inquiry to follow up on reports on marine science published in 2007 and 2013, which noted the importance of combating increasing ocean acidification.

Addressing the impacts of ocean acidification is one of the targets of the 14th UN sustainable development goal Life Below Water. However, the five-year Natural Environment Research Council’s UK ocean acidification research programme ended in 2015.
