The second reading of the higher education and research bill could take place on 19 July, senior parliamentarians are saying.
Two MPs close to the proposed legislation told Research Fortnight that the House of Commons intends to hold the second reading of the higher education and research bill before the summer recess, which begins on 21 July. Both added that 19 July was the most likely date. Confirmation could come on 14 July, when the Commons authorities publish the following week’s parliamentary business.
One of the MPs also suggested that the bill was unlikely to be scrapped, although it could be delayed.
