Stephen Metcalfe, former chairman of the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee, will continue to scrutinise science policy as a committee member.
Metcalfe, Conservative MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, was committee chairman briefly between the ascent of Theresa May to Downing Street in the summer of 2016 to the dissolution of the UK parliament ahead of the June general election this year.
He is one of the three Conservative MPs elected to the eight-strong committee. The other two are Neil O’Brien, MP for Harborough, and Bill Grant, who is MP for Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock.
