After a decisive victory in the general election, the Conservative government will set out its priorities for the next Parliament tomorrow, giving Boris Johnson another chance to flag his intentions for research.

If some of the promises made by the prime minister to the sector are not included in the Queen’s Speech on 19 December, disappointment is likely to be palpable.
