Brexiteer calls for reassurance on Horizon Europe

Chris Green, a Conservative MP who last year resigned from his government position to oppose Theresa May’s Brexit deal, has called for reassurance on the UK’s association to the European Union’s next R&D programme.

Green, who represents Bolton West, said that the uncertainty about participation in Horizon Europe was “a huge concern to so many people from the scientific community”. He was speaking at a Westminster Hall debate on the future of clinical trials in the UK, held on 23 May.

“Delivering a healthy research clinical trials environment post-Brexit will pose a challenge, and if we could make a commitment to—or at least express sympathy towards—our participation in Horizon Europe, the scientific community would appreciate being given that kind of confidence,” he said.
