European Space Agency staff who are based in the UK but do not have a British passport are to be exempt from immigration restrictions put in place after Brexit.

The UK government has laid down an agreement in parliament that protects the rights of ESA staff working in the UK who do not hold a British passport.

The move means that about 40 ESA staff based at the European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications at the Harwell campus in Oxfordshire, as well as their family members, will continue to have the right to work without being subject to immigration restrictions or being required to gain work or residence permits.
