Greater protections needed for EU citizens after 31 January, peers say

Members of the House of Lords have raised concerns over discrimination and the possibility of an extreme public backlash against European Union citizens living in the UK after Brexit.

The comments came as peers debated issues regarding settled status application outlined in the government’s EU Withdrawal Bill, which details plans for the UK’s official departure from the bloc on 31 January.
