Lords to probe Catapult network’s role in R&D push

Inquiry will look at role of the innovation centres in delivering government’s roadmap

Members of the House of Lords are to investigate the role of the UK’s Catapult Centres in delivering the government’s R&D plans, as well as the innovation centres’ links with universities and the ‘levelling-up’ agenda.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s R&D roadmap—published in July—envisages a major role for the nine business-focused R&D and innovation Catapults in delivering major aspects of government research policy. Published in July, the roadmap includes a commitment to build on the existing performance of the centres but also to “review whether they should all continue in their current form”.
