Mixed messages on promise of Pfizer Covid vaccine

Leading expert expects life ‘to return to normal by spring’, while ministers warn of over-optimism

A leading scientist has raised hopes of life returning to normal by spring, following news of a successful Covid-19 vaccine trial, while the government has struck a more cautious note.

A vaccine being developed by Pfizer and BioNTech was claimed, in a press release yesterday, to be 90 per cent effective in preventing the disease.
