Groupthink hurt Covid response, says ex-chief medical officer

Warning comes as former UK minister calls for independent body to plan for future emergencies

Groupthink and British exceptionalism have harmed the UK’s ability to prepare for the Covid-19 pandemic, according to England’s former chief medical officer.

Sally Davies, who was in the role between 2010 and 2019, was speaking during a joint House of Commons Science and Technology Committee and Health and Social Care Committee hearing on lessons learnt from coronavirus on 2 December.
