Lords push government for clarity over Horizon Europe

Researchers and students ‘want to know now’ what the government is proposing at Brexit negotiations

Members of the House of Lords have urged the government to commit to future membership of European Union schemes for research and student exchange as it pushes ahead with Brexit amid the coronavirus crisis.

In the House of Lords’ Beyond Brexit debate on 12 May, multiple Lords asked for clarity over the UK’s membership of the Erasmus+ exchange scheme and the forthcoming Horizon Europe R&D funding programme. Institutions in the UK have taken several billion from the predecessor funding programme Horizon 2020, and sent thousands of students abroad via Erasmus.
