Science takes centre stage in Queen’s speech

UK government reiterates plans to create new research agency and increase public R&D funding

The UK government has put science front and centre of its plans to level up the nation and ‘build back better’ after the pandemic in its 2021 Queen’s speech.

Setting out the government’s plans in the House of Lords on 11 May, the Queen said the priority was to deliver a national recovery from the pandemic that makes the United Kingdom “stronger, healthier and more prosperous than before”.
