Speech focused on science but raised fears over important omissions

The research and higher education sector has broadly welcomed the Queen’s speech and its focus on science but is calling for more action and detail on the government’s R&D promises.

Setting out the government’s plans in the House of Lords on 11 May, the Queen emphasised the role of science, research and innovation in the government’s levelling up agenda and plans to “build back better” after the pandemic.
