Minister defends decision not to ringfence £300 million first promised in 2020

Business secretary Grant Shapps has defended the decision not to ringfence £300 million pledged for mathematics research after £176m of the money failed to materialise.

The investment in the Additional Funding Programme for Mathematical Sciences (AFPMS) was first promised by former prime minister Boris Johnson in January 2020.
