UK sets aside £5.6bn for Horizon Europe—or its alternatives

Business minister insists UK “stands willing and able to associate” but blames EU over impasse

The UK government says it is still pushing for association to Horizon Europe—and has set aside £5.6 billion for it through to 2024-25—amid ongoing delays.

Political disputes have held up approval of UK association to the €95.5 billion (£80.5bn) R&D programme. While it remains incomplete, UK-based researchers are ineligible to receive any funding they win.
