UK Arctic research needs more ships and money, say MPs

           

Committee finds UK polar research heavily skewed towards Antarctic, recommending long-term strategy for Arctic science

MPs have called on the government to increase UK resources for Arctic research, including long-term funding and a sister research ship to the RRS Sir David Attenborough.

The Environmental Audit Committee also warned that Arctic research is “siloed”, with “little coordination” between research centres, calling for a dedicated institute for coordinating UK Arctic science.
