Laughter in the Lords over UK’s science superpower progress

Minister faces hostile questions and recognises “frustration and concern” over long-running Horizon Europe negotiations

Peers broke into laughter yesterday when progress towards the UK government’s aim of becoming a science superpower was raised in the House of Lords.

The reaction came at the end of a testy set of questions from peers to Jonathan Berry (pictured), a minister in the science department, around the ongoing negotiations on joining the EU’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.
