Scotland can “more than afford” to be a successful independent country, according to a paper launched by first minister Alex Salmond.
The document, published 21 May, sets out the country’s core economic strengths, which include a “global reputation in life sciences and an annual turnover of £2.9 billion”. It also highlights Scotland’s manufacturing industry, “thriving creative industries” with an annual turnover of £4.8bn, and its large green energy reserves.
“Scotland has a strong onshore economy and vast offshore potential, as well as a highly educated workforce and world-class technology and research,” Salmond said.
