The Scottish government plans to establish a body to coordinate the support for innovation from Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Scottish Enterprise and also involve the Scottish Funding Council.
As part of its review of enterprise and skills, the government published a report on 25 October, calling for greater alignment between the skills agencies. It said that an innovation action plan to achieve this goal was expected by the end of November 2016.
There will be a greater focus on coordination of international activity in the public and academic sectors, the report said. There are also recommendations for building a more open and international economy and on developing the digital economy, as well as ideas to simplify support for innovation.
