The Scottish Parliament’s Education and Skills Committee has said that the UK government must take action to avoid any negative effects of the higher education and research bill on Scotland.
In a report, published on 5 December, MSPs said that there were concerns about the bill’s effects on the ability of Scottish universities to compete internationally.
The committee took evidence from Scottish higher education and research bodies—including the Scottish Funding Council, Universities Scotland and the Royal Society of Edinburgh—on whether the devolved government should pass a legislative consent motion on the UK government’s bill, which will be debated in the House of Lords on 6 December.
