Scottish universities air “frustration” with proposals for next Research Excellence Framework assessment exercise

The Research Excellence Framework puts Scotland’s university research at a disadvantage compared with the rest of the UK, MPs have heard.

Changes to the REF were revealed earlier this year after the UK’s funding bodies undertook a massive review of the assessment system, which determines the amount of research funding universities receive from government.
