Welsh university leaders welcome Diamond review

Vice-chancellors group Universities Wales has praised the Diamond review into Welsh university financing as being based on “robust evidence”.

The review is being carried out by Ian Diamond, vice-chancellor of the University of Aberdeen. An interim report, published on 18 December, found that a widening funding gap between universities in Wales and the rest of the UK was making Welsh universities less competitive.

In its response to the interim report, Universities Wales said in a statement: “It is encouraging that the interim report demonstrates a high level of commitment to finding a sustainable solution for students and universities in a challenging fiscal environment.”
