Wales surpasses €50m in EU research funding

Welsh universities and businesses have secured more than €50 million (£45m) in funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme over the past two years.

More than 100 Welsh organisations have successfully bid for €54.1m in Horizon 2020 funding, the Welsh government said in a statement on 27 October.

Mark Drakeford, the Welsh government’s finance secretary, said in a press release that the funding is an “important source of investment” that had enabled Welsh organisations to play their part in delivering “some truly ground-breaking projects”.
