Ken Skates, the economy secretary in the Welsh government, has called on the UK government to invest more in R&D in Wales in order to correct a “historic imbalance” in the nation’s share of funding.
Skates has drawn up a detailed response to the UK government’s industrial strategy green paper, which he sent to Greg Clark, the UK business, enterprise and industrial strategy minister, on 8 June and released to Welsh Assembly members on 25 August.
In the document, Skates welcomed the announcement of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and said that the projects it would fund “provide the opportunity to begin to address the historic imbalance in UK research funding that has come to Wales in recent years”.
