NHS can help drive economic development, says CST

The Prime Minister’s Council for Science and Technology believes that the National Health Service must work more closely with industry in helping to generate economic growth.

In a report commissioned by David Cameron earlier this year and released on 30 September, the CST argues that the NHS fails to exploit the healthcare innovations of its staff. But through better collaboration with pharmaceutical, medical engineering and information technology firms, the ideas produced within the health service could become commercial products that will be “a driver for growth”.
