Forthcoming energy bill is silent on research funding

The UK government’s coalition partners have reached agreement on what to include in the forthcoming energy bill, but the plans do not mention research funding.

Liberal Democrat energy and climate change secretary, Edward Davey, announced a handful of measures from the bill on 22 November. These include powers to set a decarbonisation target range for 2030 in secondary legislation, plans to increase the amount of electricity from renewables from 11 per cent today to around 30 per cent by 2030, supporting new nuclear power, and carbon capture and storage commercialisation.
