Green investment bank opens its chequebook

The UK government’s £3 billion green investment bank, located in Edinburgh, has been officially launched and has made its first two investments.

Speaking at the launch on 27 November, business secretary Vince Cable said the bank has invested £8 million in an anaerobic digestion plant at Teesside, which is the first of six planned over the next five years. The investment is part of an £80m funding pot for small waste projects. It will be matched by £8m from industry.
