UK sets out investment plans for European space effort

The UK’s £1.2 billion investment in European space programmes will focus on telecommunications and Earth observation satellites, it was announced on 21 November, following negotiations at the European Space Agency’s ministerial meeting this week.

David Willetts, the minister for universities and science, said the UK’s investment in 10 optional programmes would “not only allow us to get ahead in the global race by securing more major contracts for UK industry, but will also provide us with the tools to manage major challenges like disaster relief and climate change”.
