Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust tops a league table on clinical research activity across the NHS in England.
The trust completed 404 studies in 2011-12 and recruited 13,812 patients in research. This was more than trusts such as the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (311 studies, 10,443 patients); Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (314 studies, 10,443 patients); and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (367 studies, 14,787 patients).
