NICE to assess orphan medicines

An advisory group responsible for assessing very high cost drugs for people with rare conditions will be closed down, with the work being transferred to the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.

The Advisory Group for National Specialised Services will close down on 1 April 2013 following the transfer, which health minister Lord Howe says will create “a robust, independent and transparent assessment of these drugs”.
