FSA calls for more E.coli research

Studies on the biology of enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli are needed to tackle the spread of this type of E.coli, the Food Standards Agency has said.

In a report of a workshop held in Scotland in November 2011, the FSA recommends further research into E.coli. Suggestions include improving the understanding of the epidemiology of EHEC infection, researching potential intervention strategies, promoting international collaboration in research on the evolution and virulence of strains, and improving links between industry, regulators and consumers in investigating interventions.
