Competition launched to map genes of cancer patients

The Department of Health has launched a £10-million competition for companies to develop technologies to map and analyse genes of people with cancer and rare diseases.

Genomics England Limited, a company set up to map the DNA code of 100,000 NHS cancer patients by 2017, will manage the funding for the Technology Strategy Board’s Small Business Research Initiative. The company was launched by the government in July.

The initiative opened a call for applications on 2 December. The deadline for registration is noon on 26 January.
