Model agreement available to ease set up of clinical trials

The National Institute for Health Research has worked with industry associations to write a model agreement between partners involved in clinical trials in primary care in the UK.

The agreement aims to speed up the process of launching clinical trials sponsored by industry by saving organisations from having to produce an agreement from scratch for each trial conducted by GPs. The document was produced by the NIHR, the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, the Bioindustry Association, research-active physicians and UK health departments among others.

Sally Davies, the government’s chief medical officer, described the agreement as “an important new tool supporting primary care research governance that will help to ensure speedy and efficient trial start-up”.
